Lost: Jack meets Locke
Los Angeles airport, at the lost luggage desk. Two passengers who have just flown in from Sydney start talking. Both of them have lost something... but not the same kind of thing!
Watch the scene
Watch the whole scene once, without stopping. Try to answer these questions: Where are the two men? What has each of them lost? Don't worry if you don't understand every word!
How to work
- Test your understanding: watch and answer (13 questions). Read the feedback after each answer: it explains what you missed.
- Learn the key words: vocabulary activity (4 slides, 30 words). Then watch the scene again: how much more can you understand now?
- Watch and complete the script: fill in the gaps. Hover over the dotted words to see their French translation.
- Think about it: discuss the questions below with a partner or in class.
- To finish, take the final test (20 questions, mark out of 20).
Think about it
Jack says: "They lost my father." Locke answers: "They didn't lose your father, they just lost his body."
- What is the difference between "your father" and "his body" for Locke?
- Where do you think Jack's father is now? In the coffin? In heaven? In the memory of the people who loved him? Nowhere?
- Jack looks for a tracking system, Locke smiles. Who is the man of science? Who is the man of faith?
- Jack says: "Nothing is irreversible." Do you agree with him?
Useful words: the body, the soul, the spirit, heaven, the afterlife, to believe in, faith, science, I think that..., I don't agree with..., for me...
