Transparent words

taxi, banana, chocolate… Easy to understand, but they don't sound like French!

1Listen and repeat

These words are written almost like in French, but the English sounds and the stress are different. Listen carefully: would you recognise them if you heard them in a film?

    2Find the stressed syllable

Listen to each word and click the syllable that is louder and longer.

The rule: French puts the stress at the end of words. English often puts it at the beginning: TElevision, HElicopter, CROcodile, CHOcolate. But not always: baNAna, toMAto, giRAFFE, JaPAN, vaNILla… Listen carefully!

    3Listen and find the category

Listen to each word (▶) without seeing it, then drag it into the right box (or tap the word, then the box). When you're right, you can read it!

    4Listen and write

Listen and type the word you hear, then press Enter or click Check.
