Invent your own silly walk!

“The left leg does a half turn every alternate step…” Invent a walk, describe it… and do it!

Your mission: you want a grant from the Ministry of Silly Walks, so you need a walk that is really silly! Invent it, describe it precisely, and get ready to show it.

2Invent your own walk

Describe your walk in four or five sentences on a sheet of paper: legs, arms, head, rhythm, direction. Use the words below — or your own!

Body parts

  • The right leg
  • The left leg
  • The right arm
  • The left arm
  • The head
  • The right foot
  • The left knee

Movements

  • kicks forward
  • does a half turn
  • swings round and round
  • bends back over the head
  • hops twice
  • wobbles like jelly
  • points at the sky
  • shakes nervously
  • draws a circle in the air
  • taps the ground

When?

  • every alternate step
  • every third step
  • with every single step
  • when nobody is looking
  • every time I see a bus
  • on Tuesdays only

How?

  • while I walk backwards
  • while I walk sideways
  • on tiptoe
  • very slowly
  • very fast
  • while I read my newspaper
  • with my eyes closed

3Walk my description!

In pairs: read your description aloud. Your partner must do the walk exactly as you describe it. Is it the walk you imagined? Then swap. The class votes for the silliest walk: it will be in your role play!
