1Listen and repeat
In English, -tion sounds /ʃən/, like “shun”, with a tiny /ə/. Adoption is “a-dop-shun”, not “adopsion” like in French!
2Find the stressed syllable

The rule: The stress is always on the syllable just before -tion: aDOPtion, afFECtion, circuLAtion, improviSAtion. Long word or short word, it never changes!
