A guide welcomes tourists

The skyline of Lower Manhattan, New York

You have just landed in New York with a group of tourists. On the bus, your guide Deborah tells you everything about the next two days: the hotel, the free afternoon, the visits, the evening out...

Listen to your guide

Listen once without stopping. Try to answer these questions: Where is the group now? What can they do this afternoon? What will they visit tomorrow? Don't worry if you don't understand everything!

How to work

  1. Test your understanding: listen and answer (14 questions). Read the feedback after each answer: it explains what you missed.
  2. Listen again and complete Deborah's speech: drag the words.
  3. Ready for a challenge? Same speech, but now type the words.
  4. Learn the words every tourist needs: vocabulary. For more practice, try these two games: drag and drop and LearningApps.
  5. Can you say it in English? Translate Deborah's sentences (20 sentences), then click to check.
  6. To finish, take the grammar test on the future and modals (20 questions, mark out of 20).
  7. Day 2: listen to Deborah giving you tomorrow's programme.
